Hawaii BSL Bill Makes Front Page of the Newspaper
Bill would ban owning pit bulls in Hawaii — but its chances are slim
According today’s Honolulu Advertiser article, the chances of the Hawaii BSL bill passing are slim. While this is great news for dog owners/supporters, this doesn’t mean they should take it for granted that nothing will happen to their dogs.
Many Hawaii dog owners are still planning to get together and make a statement about their opposition to breed specific legislation in Hawaii while showing their support for all breeds of dogs. These dog owners and lovers aren’t willing to leave anything to chance just because passing of the bill seems unlikely.
The article does also state that the Hawaiian Humane Society is opposed to breed specific legislation.
Kawehi Yim, spokeswoman for the Hawaiian Humane Society, said the organization is opposed to any proposal that would ban specific breeds.
“They’re expensive to enforce and they just don’t work,” Yim said. “Our belief is it’s the owner that makes the dog and not the dog. It goes back to just being a responsible pet owner.”
